Inspectors

BAC has an inspectorate of some 80 independent, experienced and trusted inspectors upon which it calls when making an institutional inspection.  Inspection teams are selected on the basis of qualities including sector experience and subject specialism to ensure a level of knowledge appropriate to each particular institution.

The Head of Inspection Services maintains oversight of the entire inspection process and advises on the ongoing development of inspection and accreditation policies and processes, including team selection, monitoring of reports, inspector training and the ongoing development of inspection processes and criteria.

Heading up the inspectorate is the Chief Inspector, who leads the training, monitoring and recruitment of inspectors, advises on policy and ensures that accreditation criteria are consistently applied and continue to reflect best practice and developments in statutory requirements.

She is joined by four Senior Inspectors, who, in addition to carrying out a large proportion of Reporting Inspector work, participate in inspector training and induction and contribute to the development of the inspection processes and criteria.

A further dozen Reporting Inspectors are responsible for the on-site management of inspections and the production of the Inspection Reports which are presented to the Accreditation Committee for their consideration.

The 50 or so Specialist Inspectors available to BAC form an invaluable part of the inspection team, providing the RI with a different perspective in the assessment of an institution and often allowing specialist academic insight into the teaching provision of a college.
